What is a WhatsApp-only VPN? How it works and its limits
Most VPN apps send all your phone’s traffic through one server, slowing banking, games and streaming. A single-app VPN sends only one chosen app through the tunnel; everything else runs as normal.
How it works
Android lets a VPN app pick which apps may use the tunnel. Whats Call selects only WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business and encrypts their traffic between your phone and the server with the WireGuard protocol.
What it does
- Sends WhatsApp calls and messages through an encrypted tunnel.
- Leaves all other apps alone, so their speed is unaffected.
- Needs no account or phone number.
What it does not do
- It does not fix weak internet itself.
- It does not change WhatsApp’s privacy policy or make your account anonymous to WhatsApp.
- It does not work on iPhone for now: iOS does not let an ordinary App Store app restrict a tunnel to one app.
